Colts Grand Final Bound

The top two teams in the Hasting Deering Colts competition clashed on Saturday in Townsville with the Norths Devils emerging victorious over the Townsville Blackhawks, earning a week off before the Grand Final.

The Blackhawks got off to a strong start with winger Kirk diving over in the corner to give his team an early 4 point lead. Norths bounced back quickly and a piece of magic from hooker Hetherington saw him dart out from dummy half and dance his way through 5 Blackhawks players to score from 30 meters out.

The lead was increased to 8 points only minutes later when teammate Easthope steamrolled over a defender to score in the corner.

The scores remained the same for most of the second half until the Blackhawks were able to score again late in the game to give themselves a chance. Unfortunately for them, poor goal kicking and a late try from Gerome Burns meant that their last minute try was only a consolation with scores finishing 14-18 in Norths favour.

The week off will give Norths a chance to refresh ahead of a Grand Final showdown between either the Blackhawks or Pride at 1PM at Suncorp Stadium on September 15.

The Townsville Blackhawks path to the Grand Final is now less secure and they must defeat a red hot Northern Pride next week in order to get their finals campaign back on track and secure the remaining spot in the Final.
