Rohan Smith extends as Head Coach until 2023

The Norths Devils are proud to announce that we have officially re-signed Head Coach Rohan Smith for 3 years, taking us to the end of 2023.

Since joining the Devils in 2018, Rohan has steered the club to success on the field, as well as developing a great culture off the field.

Long term sponsors Minelab have also renewed their support for the club as official sponsor for Rohan Smith as Head Coach the 2021 season. We welcome Minelab back on board and thank them for their continued interest in supporting Rugby League development!

After disappointing performances for the Devils in 2015, 2016, and 2017, Rohan was recruited to the club in 2018 with a mission to bring the mighty Devils back to the top end of the Intrust Super Cup ladder.

He brought with him a wealth of Rugby League knowledge, a fresh approach to footy tactics, and the ability to build trust with the players and build a strong culture among the playing group.

In his first year the Devils were awarded the Club Championship for the best performing club across the U18, U20 and ISC competitions. The Intrust Super Cup team finished 8th, our U18s were pipped in the Grand Final by Souths Logan, and the U20s took out the premiership at Suncorp Stadium.

In 2019 we finished 5th after a promising season and were ready to keep the momentum into 2020 until the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Rohan has built an environment where young players are encouraged to develop and allowed to flourish, which has helped him for a strong bond amongst the players and coaching staff. A number of players have gone on to play NRL such as Jamayne Taunoa-Brown.

The Devils have become a place where young players know they will be respected, looked after, and given the opportunity to develop as people not just as players.

Having been around rugby league his entire life, Rohan has been an assistant coach at the Gold Coast Titans, Sydney Roosters and Newcastle Knights.

His NRL knowledge combined with his extreme passion for sports coaching is an infectious energy that inspires those around him.

Rohan also has a passion for developing the game further and sharing his knowledge. He recently held a 3-day Coaching Intensive aimed at helping aspiring coaches gain hands on experience and introducing theories and skills. The feedback from the coaches was outstanding and the club now has plans to hold more of these sessions with Rohan in the future.

Looking ahead to the 2021 season, Rohan has his sights on an effective pre-season to put the Devils in prime position for another great year.
