Position Summary:
This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for those passionate about athlete rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols. As the Return to Play Trainer, you’ll support athletes in safely reintegrating into their sport following an injury, collaborating closely with performance staff to develop and oversee structured, multi-phase recovery plans. This role provides hands-on experience within a semi-professional environment, focusing on injury assessment, training, and evaluation to help athletes achieve peak performance and reduce re-injury risk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Injury Assessment: Conduct initial assessments, collaborating with medical professionals to understand each athlete’s injury and recovery goals.
- Therapy and Testing: Work with physical therapists and performance staff, assisting in guiding athletes through essential tests and treatments.
- Training: Provide training guidance, including techniques for injury prevention, tailored exercises, and progressions both at home and onsite.
- Evaluation: Help evaluate each athlete’s progress through each recovery phase, making adjustments based on assessments and feedback.
- Communication and Coordination: Facilitate communication among the athlete, medical team, coaches, and trainers to ensure alignment on recovery goals.
- Policy Adherence: Ensure all return-to-play plans follow sport-specific policies and protocols, including concussion protocols.
- Education and Prevention: Educate athletes on injury prevention strategies, promoting a well-rounded approach to their recovery.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Degree or currently pursuing a degree in Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Sports Science, or a related field (Physiotherapy or Exercise Physiology preferred).
- Experience: No prior experience required, though a passion for rehab and return-to-play within a sports setting is essential.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with injury rehabilitation and basic sports-specific training concepts is beneficial.
- Communication Skills: Able to communicate clearly with athletes and support staff.
- Problem Solving: Ability to make adjustments based on athlete feedback and progress.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in monitoring and documenting recovery stages.
Working Conditions:
This role is based in person, often at training facilities or sports venues, and requires flexibility, including weekend and evening work. This role provides hands-on learning and the opportunity to grow while playing a valuable role in an athlete’s recovery journey.
