It’s been a tough few weeks on the injury front for our Hostplus Cup squad, and you might have noticed some key players missing from the action. Here’s the lowdown on our sidelined warriors:
First up, the heartbreaker – our Petero Civoniceva medal frontrunner, Gerome Burns, has unfortunately suffered a season-ending injury when playing at home against the Tweed Seagulls. Gerome ruptured his patella tendon and has since undergone surgery to repair it. On the day Gerome told the club’s medical staff that he didn’t want to leave before until the game had resolved. He stayed to support and cheer on his mates to a win. We’re all rooting for his speedy recovery!
Additionally, Eddie Blacker and Hayden Rowbotham have both had to undergo shoulder surgeries, also ruling them out for the rest of the season. Blacker’s presence on the field and the depth Rowbo brings to the squad in the halves will be sorely missed, but we know they’ll be cheering us on from the sidelines.
Jack Wright is currently rehabbing a niggling knee injury he’s been battling since late in the 2023 season. He’s working hard on his recovery and we expect him back in action soon – keep your eyes peeled!
And for the most unusual injury update – Jacob Gagan recently won our unofficial award for the most awkwardly placed injury. He split the skin between the base of his nose and his lip in round 14 against Tweed, which required some quick on-field patchwork and stitches post-game. As luck would have it, Jacob has also picked up a calf injury against the Townsville Blackhawks and will need a short break to ensure he’s right for the back end of an important run to the finals.
That’s the round-up for now. We’ll keep you posted with any new updates. In the meantime, take care and remember, we’re just a call away at The Joint Nundah if you need us!
