HEAD OF PERFORMANCE
Role Description:
The Head of Performance Coach is accountable for developing and delivering applied and innovative strength and conditioning programs to drive improvement and optimisation of performance for all Norths Devils players.
KEY WORK OUTPUTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Coordinating the Performance team, this role will develop programs as part of an integrated approach to physical enhancement and will also support and supervise all other Norths Devils grades.
Athletic Performance
- Establish and deliver standardised strength & diagnostic protocols and key performance standards for HPC, BMD, Junior Reps and game development programs.
- Assist coaching staff with on-field duties including pre-field-based training warm-ups, conditioning, and player top-ups.
- Assist operations manager and coaching staff with Home/Away travel and game day duties. Including individual pre-game preparation and on-field interchange warm-up duties.
- In consultation with the Club Doctor and Physiotherapist, assist the Return to Play Coordinator and oversee handover to reintegrate players into HPC and BMD programs.
- Establish and oversee the club’s concussion management of all players in line with NRL / QRL Concussion Management Protocols.
- Assist with player recovery and regeneration as and when necessary.
- Coordinate and deliver individual player speed and power development, activation, mobility and proprioceptive work with players prior to training and designated days off.
- Assist with cross-training players where necessary.
Game Development
- Liaise with Game Development staff to ensure alignment of program/framework design and benchmarking of key physical development markers.
- Monitor and quantify gym training loads in conjunction with coaching and medical staff to optimise the reduction of injury incidence and enhance performance outcomes.
Innovation & Development
- Identify best practices and build innovation into programs to drive the development of existing and future technology to ensure Norths Devils maintain a competitive edge.
Supervise the professional development of S&C coaching staff and student interns assigned to the Norths Devils programs.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Tertiary qualifications in sport science or exercise science – desirable
- Current first aid qualifications
- Minimum Level 2 ASCA Strength & Conditioning accreditation
- National Rugby League Sports Trainer accreditation (min Level 2 Desirable)
- Working with Children Check
- Current Drivers Licence
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of two years’ experience coaching semi-professional or elite athletes, including devising and implementing successful rehabilitation preparation programs with particular reference to long-term athlete development and rehabilitation
- An ability to demonstrate an understanding of the NRL, QRL, major sports administration or professional sporting team culture is desirable
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- A highly developed understanding and application of the principles of physical preparation and high-performance sport
- Excellent and well-rounded athletic performance knowledge/experience across all physical qualities (speed, strength & endurance)
- Strong time management and planning skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks.
- Ability to bring people along and achieve results through hard work, dedication and a genuine care for others and our club.
- A willingness to learn and continue to upskill with a focus on innovation
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships
HOURS OF COMMITMENT
Being in the sports administration industry, the nature of this role requires weekend work and evening work with a significant afternoon and evening element during the QRL preseason and regular season. It is expected that this role will attend all home and away QRL games and finals.
DRESS CODE
Club Apparel will be issued at the beginning of preseason and is to be worn to all trainings, games and club functions.
