Devils to host Falcons in grand final qualifier

Norths Devils will host a preliminary final against Sunshine Coast Falcons after an extra-time finish to today’s Hostplus Cup semi-final.

The Falcons came back from a 0-24 deficit against Tweed Seagulls to cross in the final minutes to level the scores at 24-all.

The match then went into a golden-point period but the Falcons didn’t have to touch the ball to get their shot at winning.

The Seagulls were trapped in their in-goal from the kick-off and then failed to kick the ball the required 10 metres on the dropout re-start, gifting the Falcons a penalty goal in front.

That knocked Tweed out of the competition and sent the Falcons to Bishop Park for the grand final qualifier on Saturday at 1pm.

Redcliffe will host the other preliminary final next Saturday against minor premiers Burleigh Bears.

The grand final will contested between the winners of both preliminary finals at Dolphin Oval on Saturday September 24.

The Devils did not have to play this weekend after last Sunday’s epic qualifying final win at Burleigh gained them a rest.

Instead, the Devils trained on Bishop Park at 1pm yesterday, simulating the time of the preliminary final.

The premiers are in good spirits after last weekend’s victory – their fifth consecutive win – with all players available for the preliminary final.
