QUT team up with Devils to tackle Diabetes

QUT and the Norths Devils have kicked off their League Fit program at the club, with over 30 die-hard Devils supporters.

The aim of the program is to prevent chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes by introducing men in the at risk category to practical health and lifestyle choices.

The program is delivered through a mutual love of Rugby League, and by making an accessible and enjoyable learning environment.

Former Devil Alan Law, Current Devil Sosefo Filipine, and QUT Associate Professor Tobey Pavey.

QUT’s Associate Professor Toby Pavey, Dr Lee Wharton and Professor Remco Polman are researching the results of weight-loss intervention for men using community-based professional rugby league clubs to deliver the program.

League Fans in Training (League-FIT) is based on a Scottish initiative that used football teams to deliver lifestyle intervention such as exercise and nutritional advice to overweight and obese men. Professors Cindy Gray and Kate Hunt from the Scottish initiative are helping to guide the QUT team.
