Devils Hastings Deering Colts team excited for 2021

As pre-season gets well underway, our u21 squad is looking forward to taking the field in the revised Hastings Deering Colts state-wide competition.

The competition was previously u20, the change meaning the top age players who missed out on playing during 2020 due to Covid-19 will get another chance to play before entering the open age group.

Head Coach Rhett Tronc has predicted that the increased age range will have the potential to make the competition even better with the more mature players.

This week Rhett also spoke to us about the goals for pre-season:

“The main goal for the Norths coaching staff is to make sure we have a group of well prepared young men who we have helped develop to be the best person they can on and off the field.”

“If we start 2021 and everyone’s got a smile on their face, and we’ve worked really hard during preseason – then we’ll be in a good position.”

Devils players get stuck in to training for the upcoming season.

2018 Hastings Deering Colts Premiership winning players Zak McGuire, Fruean Easthope, and Sosefo Filipine will all return to the team with the goal of repeating their success.

A core group of players who won the first game of 2020 against Mackay Cutters have also been re-signed so far: Lachlan Tenison-Woods, Leighton Milburn, Alex Timu, Danny Heenan, Kye Jenkins, Zach Brooks and Josh Radford.

2020 captain Jared Chambers will also return to the Devils after a strong year playing in the BRL A Grade Competition for Valleys Diehards.
