The final round of the 2018 Hastings Deering Colts competition produced a high octane game of rugby league in the clash between Norths Devils and the Sunshine Coast Falcons. After 70 minutes the teams were only separated thanks to a calmly slotted field goal from rising star Gerome Burns who is having an outstanding season and currently sits third on total points scored.
The win didn’t come easy for the Devils, and despite starting the match quickly and taking out a 12 point lead, The Falcons soon found their gear and piled on 28 unanswered points by the 44th minute. It wasn’t until a try by Liam Horne in the 50th minute that the momentum swung back Norths way and they were able to score another 2 in quick succession before Burns sealed the game with two minutes to go.
The victory is a fitting end to an excellent season for the Norths Colts who have won 15 games. They go into the finals in second place, only finishing behind leaders Townsville Blackhawks by a single point. Norths now have a week off before playing the Blackhawks in two weeks time. This will be a cracker of a game and the boys will be keen to pull one back over Townsville after an earlier season defeat in April.
