New Devils ready for Coast trip

After more than 200 career games, Guy Williams is learning combinations again as one of the new faces at the Norths Devils.

Williams has been among 18 players to make their Devils debut this year after an off-season overhaul under new coach Rohan Smith.

The Devils’ 6-5 record has been spread across 31 different players leading into tomorrow’s clash with the Sunshine Coast Falcons at Kawana.

It will be Williams’ first trip to the Sunshine Coast as a Devil after 14 seasons with Central Queensland.

“I came down here looking for an opportunity and I’ve really enjoyed it,” Williams said.

“I enjoy the way we’ve been playing footy this year. It’s put a spring in my step.

“It’s a really good group and we are still learning about each other and we’re still developing combinations.

“But there are good signs of progress. We know we have good footy ahead of us.”

Kawana has been a favourite stop for the Devils with seven wins from the club’s last eight visits.

But the 2018 squad is different to the last group to visit the Sunshine Coast.

Only three of the Devils who sprung a Round 23 upset on the Falcons at Kawana last year will be playing tomorrow.

“The Falcons are a good side. They have been close in most of their games so it’s important that we start well,” Williams said.

“We haven’t been too far off in our last few games. There are areas to improve on and we have been making those improvements.”
